Block notification of Persona.is-favourite when changing it on
the Individual

This fixes changing the favourite status of an Individual containing
more than
one Persona, since previously the change wouldn't be applied. This
is because
the change would be bubbled down to the first Persona, which
would then
notify of the change to its is-individual property, causing the
Individual's
is-favourite property to be re-calculated incorrectly, since the
favourite
status of the _other_ Personas hadn't yet been changed. Closes:

17 Gnome Subtitles
1 - Gnome Subtitles 1.0 13:33

I'm very pleased to announce the immediate availability of Gnome Subtitles 1.0. This release is the result of all development effort carried on till now, into a stable release. Besides the stabilization effort, this release delivers the following features:

  • Added drag-and-drop support for loading subtitle and video files
  • Allow to set new options in the preferences:
    • Whether to save the translation when saving subtitles
    • Default and fallback character codings for opening files
    • Default subtitle format, character coding and newline type for saving files
    • Allow to remember the last used settings
  • Fixed a timings synchronization issue when "Sync All Subtitles" was used
  • Activating (double-clicking) a sync point in the synchronization dialog now selects the corresponding subtitle and seeks the video to its position

Other features include:

  • Allow to edit spinbutton's time text up to millisecond precision
  • Wrap the subtitle text to fit the video area
  • Changed the default newline type to Windows (CR+LF) to improve compatibility with other platforms (including external video players)
  • Fixed support for video filenames with special characters
  • Fixed bug with the title bar showing the previously loaded file
  • Fixed bug with the timings "seek to" dialog not reflecting timing mode changes
  • Fixed use of LDADD when building
  • Use libtool to produce shared libraries

This release features translations added or updated by:

3 - Gnome Subtitles 0.9 is out! 00:02

I'm very happy to announce release 0.9 of Gnome Subtitles. This includes major features, as well as many bug fixes and contributions.

The long-awaited feature for easily synchronizing times based on sync points is now available. This works by selecting a subtitle, adjusting the video to the correct time of that subtitle, and clicking "Add" on the dialog to add that sync point. After the necessary points are added (at least 2 are required), all is ready to start synchronizing. Only the subtitles between the chosen sync points will be used, unless the "synchronize all subtitles" option is active. The dialog is interactive, so it displays status messages to help on the synchronization task.

The application now register for common subtitle files, such as SubRip, MPSub, SubStation Alpha and MicroDVD. This uses MIME types and allows to open files by double-clicking them in nautilus. The user interface is now more polished, after removing the border relief in video-related buttons and decreasing their size. A "Seek To" dialog was added. This allows to seek the video to a specific time/frame instant.

The SubLib project, as stated before, has been incorporated into Gnome Subtitles. This means SubLib isn't needed as a separate package anymore.

Additional features:

  • Allow to close a file without quitting the application (File Close)
  • Replace All now replaces translations too, besides the normal subtitle text
  • Don't change the timing mode, after saving a file, to reflect the timing mode of the subtitle format chosen for saving
  • Added Insert and Delete Subtitles toolbar buttons, removed Find and Replace from the toolbar
  • Improved handling of text formatting tags in SubRip files
  • Show Matroska Video files (MKV) when listing video files
  • Fixed crash on opening a translation file with no subtitles loaded
  • Major refactoring of the video playback engine, with GStreamer Playbin (code from the FuseMC project) being incorporated into the project source tree and GStreamer events being received asynchronously now, which means the user interface adapts to the video in an asynchronous/non-blocking way
  • Fixed some bugs in the video playback engine, such as loading a file when the previously loaded file wasn't played, and video position not being correctly updated after loading the video and before starting playback

Changes in the project dependencies:

  • Requires gtk, gtk-sharp, glade-sharp and gconf-sharp 2.12 or higher
  • No longer requires gnome-sharp nor sublib

Translations:

  • Joan Duran (ca)

  • The file with a movie is not always automatically selected (#417975)
  • Improvements to selection types in timings dialogs (#430737)
  • Add support for viewing and correcting line length (#430961)
  • Synchronize subtitles using multiple sync points (#471393)
  • Allow to seek to a specified time instant (#504560)
  • Configure script doesn't check for gstreamer-plugins-base headers (#520171)
  • Make frequently-used menu items accessible in the toolbar (#530833)

4 - SubLib merged into Gnome Subtitles 17:07

SubLib, the subtitle library used by Gnome Subtitles, has been merged into the Gnome Subtitles source code repository.

The original purpose of the SubLib subtitle library was to provide multimedia applications with a common and simple way to work with different file formats, performing file editing, searching, translation and synchronization. Since its creation, although some projects have used SubLib in order to take some concepts and ideas, as was the case with a couple of commercial applications, SubLib itself wasn't used by those projects. In fact, SubLib is currently only used by the Gnome Subtitles project.

That said, it was decided to merge its source code into Gnome Subtitles. This move not only eases the development of Gnome Subtitles, but also facilitates the tasks of packaging and releasing the application.

5 - Recently in the Press 16:06

Gnome Subtitles has been featured, once again, in the Press.

Issue #3 (August/September 2008) of the Linux Pratique Essentiel magazine features an article covering funcionality from Gnome Subtitles 0.8. A thumbnail version is available (Gnome Subtitles is in page 9).

6 - Gnome Subtitles in Fedora 15:06

Thanks to the great work of Julian Sikorski and Alexander Kahl, Gnome Subtitles is now available in the official Fedora 9 repositories.

7 - Gnome Subtitles 0.8 is out! 23:32

Gnome Subtitles 0.8 has been released. Release details follow.

  • Added spell checking support:
    • Highlights spelling errors while typing
    • Uses Enchant in order to support multiple spell checking backends
    • Allows to spell check subtitles and translation in different languages
  • Added support for the following subtitle formats:
    • AQ Title
    • MacSUB
    • Sofni

8 - Gnome Subtitles in Ubuntu 19:34

Gnome Subtitles is now in the official Ubuntu repositories (Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron release).

There is, however, a missing dependency in the package which may make the application crash when creating new files. If so, please install the "libmono-i18n2.0-cil" package using Synaptic. This will be fixed in future releases.

9 - Slackware and Mandriva 00:02

Slackware packages are available in the Gnome Slacky repository.

Mandriva packages are available in the official contrib repository.

10 - Recently heard 23:23

Gnome Subtitles has received the Editor Award from Uptodown.com.

In other news, quoting a recent article from Linux.com:

Gnome Subtitles is probably the best subtitle editing application in Linux.

Under preparation is release 0.8 of Gnome Subtitles, which is to be expected soon. Stay tuned.
